I'm making Thanksgiving dinner on Monday for 12 people. How big a turkey do i need to buy?
8 adults, 4 kids
I'm in Canada, we have Thanksgiving this weekend and Remembrance day in November.
Little geography lesson here, American kiddies. Canada is North of the United states, and our growing season is shorter. We've already had frost, and yesterday, we had snow where I live.Yes, its early, but not unusual. Harvests are in, and its the time to celebrate. By the middle of November, when you people have yours we could well be hip deep in snow drifts.

The rule of thumb is: if you're using a whole turkey, one pound of turkey per person. That accounts for innards, bones, and just the right amount of leftovers.

18lb turkey should feed 8 adults & 4 kids comfortably. I always cook up about 12-15 chicken drumsticks the day before, just in case I need to top up :-)

At least a 22lb turkey. You want to make sure you have enough for leftovers. Have fun!
