For those of you who had your period while pregnant?

I was surprised at Denise F´s question (and answers) about having your period while pregnant. I didn´t know that it was possible to be pregnant and keep getting your period for months.

When a woman gets her period while pregnant, are there other signs, for example, swollen breasts, belly bulging, that could help her know she´s pregnant?

Burping, fatigue, weight loss, weight gain, increased appetite or lack of appetite, food cravings (salty foods, pickles, pasta), itchy skin, morning sickness, tender breasts that hurt when touched.

Your skin starts looking younger and fresher due to progesterone in the body.

And yes, it is totally possible to have your period at the beginning of your pregnancy. I don't understand how this can happen (how a woman can be pregnant and have a period without shedding the fertilized zygote) but for some reason, it can happen, even though medical professionals will disagree.

I first thought I might be pregnant because my breasts were swollen and tender, I was extremely tired, my belly was starting to bulge a little (I am very thin so I definately noticed this), and the weirdest symptom was that the smell of coffee made me so sick. The problem was that I had not missed a period. I took the test anyway and it was positive. I got my period again the next week- the week before my doctor appointment. She sent me for an ultrasound and I was 14 weeks along. That was the last period I got until after my very healthy baby was born. I found out after the pregnancy that I have endometriosis which is being treated now- but that is why I probably had my period in the beginning of my pregnancy.

I would just take a test to be sure, so many times we wish for something so hard that we believe that it is true, even if it is not always! I would not read into the signs so much as was said before it could be PMS, but if you really want to be sure, take a test. It is the only way, do it before it is too late if there is a problem that can be fixed, you will be happt if you do! Good luck!

If your using Depo why not just get a birth control that completely stops your period? & many say the depo shot takes a while to start working if i were you I'd take a test just in case

For me, all the other signs were there. I just continued to have my period for 4 months. This is not uncommon. I've had several patients who had periods all the way through their pregnancy.

You cant have your period if you are pregnant. However, you can bleed and it can appear to be a period. Its called "decidual bleeding" and it can come when you expect your period and feel like one but its not. If you suspect pregnancy, take a test. All the early "signs" mimick PMS.

take a pregnancy test. and if you are pregnant see your doc. as quickly as possible, 'cause you might be loosing your baby. Lay down and rest with your feet lifted with pillows. Try to stop the hemorrhaging. But definitely see a doctor. You might also be at risk. Like a ruptured tube or an abnormal pregnancy. Please i can't stress this enough. GOOD LUCK!!!!
