My pup was just neutered 2 weeks ago. Since then, I have noticed two hard "knots" by the incision area.

I'm very concerned. We have an appointment with the vet on Monday, but does anyone have any idea what this could be? Thank you.

It sounds like excess scar tissue.

    It's probably nothing for concern.

Even people can have this problem.

It's possible that these "knots" are in truth knots from sutures used under the skin. If that's the case, I'm sure they're dissolvable and will go away within 60-90 days. This is just a guess, however, and am glad that you have an appointment to see the vet.

If the dog had external sutures, the "knots" in the skin could have been caused by the dog licking at or pulling at its sutures.

If the sutures were internal, the dissolving kind, it may be that the dog is allergic to the internal sutures and his body is trying to reject them.

Unless there is excessive redness, heat, bloor or pus coming from the knots, I wouldn't worry about them too much, but DO keep your appointment on Monday and let your vet check things out.

Sounds like a little scar tissue. As time goes by they will soften and become unnoticeable.

Only become concerned if the area turns red, oozes pus or the dog has fever.

Since it's been two weeks I think he's over the worst of it.

I just had my chihuahua done and he was good to go in no time.

Are the knots in the stitches or is it lumpy around it? My dog had something lumpy around her incision and the vet we went to said it was nothing serious...but the vet was really poking it hard and pulling at it (I know it sounds cruel...but the dog wasn't doing anything, like whining in pain or anything). I really hope it's not anything serious. Our dog had a small puss sack type thing but vet popped it or something and drained it so it was all better. I really hope that your puppy's okay!

It is probably scar tissue that will eventually heal. But if not, it is good that you are going to the vet because it might be a stitch that hasn't dissolved and could become infected. Good Luck

See if you can call a veterinarian's office (it may not be your own) that can answer your question for you over the phone. Personally I think its scar tissue, but I'm not a professional!! Good for you for having your puppy neutered!

probably scar tissue but taking him to the vet is a good idea. It could be infected

As always, call the veterinarian for professional advice! It may be normal, or you may need an appointment. It's your pet! Be a responsible owner!

Just talk to the vet. Good luck. I hope he's ok!
