Where does a turkey come from?

Turkey eggs are edible and taste similar to chicken eggs. However, since most turkey eggs are used by the industry to produce turkeys, they would be quite expensive to use for cooking. Also, there are no inspection and grading regulations set forth by the USDA regarding turkey eggs.

Another main reason turkey eggs are not sold to consumers is the size of the eggs. Recipes are designed for the amount of liquid in a chicken egg. The weight of one large chicken egg is 50 grams, while the weight of one turkey egg is 70 grams. Such a difference in bakery recipes would be dreadful to the final results.

Now, why wouldn't regular stores sell them? Most likely because they are either less appetizing, or because a turkey egg creates more value if it is hatched and grown. Why? Read on:

Turkeys don't lay that many eggs, and the ones they do lay are used to produce more turkeys. The average egg-laying chicken lays 300 or so eggs per year, while the average turkey produces only 100 to 120. Chickens come into production at 19 to 20 weeks of age, but turkeys don't get cranking until 32 weeks. Turkeys are also much larger, averaging 16 to 17 pounds compared to 3.5 pounds for chickens. So you'd need a lot more room for a bird that would take a lot longer to produce a lot fewer eggs.

Chicken are a bit different in that hen can lay unfertilized eggs, eggs that will NOT develop to become a chick. Turkeys -- like most other birds -- would lay essentially fertilized eggs, those will develop onto turkey chick.

Even if turkey would lay eggs that are unfertilized, those would be much bigger than chicken eggs, and thus not as easy to package, distribute, cook and work with. And why would you anyway? Anything extra in a turkey egg that is left wanting in a chicken egg?

God created it. God created all human and animal life. The eggs came afterward. Some people may eat turkey eggs. It is considered a bird, like chickens are considered birds.

Turkeys come from eggs, and the eggs are edible. The reason most people don't eat them is turkeys are not bred for eggs, they are bred for their meat. Also the eggs are larger and more expensive, which makes them harder to buy and harder to cook with. It throws off the recipe when the egg is bigger.

turkeys are simmilar to chickens but obviously have significant differences. They come from eggs, to eat turkey eggs you must live on a farm as they're not available in stores, just like you can't buy emu or ostrich eggs..., yum emu egg omelette. did you know one ostrich egg is large enough to feed an entire family of 5???

On of the criteria for a bird to be considered a bird is it have it come from an egg.

It comes out of an egg...like all birds,and you can buy turkey eggs. Not sure i would like one boiled with my toast.
