Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon performed all of the songs themselves, without being dubbed. They also learned to play their instruments (guitar and auto-harp, respectively) from scratch.

From what I understand it was him singing & Reese Witherspoon sung as well. I think I saw on TV that he was chosen b/c even though he did not sound as much like Cash as they wanted, he personified him perfectly.

Yes and he also learned over 20 songs on the guitar. Reese Witherspoon also sang her parts too. They are both very talented.

That was him. My sister was an extra in the movie, and she was telling me about neat it was to actually hear the two of them singing in person.

Reese Witherspoon also did her own singing, and I believe at one point during filming, she nearly lost her voice.

you know i haven't seen the movie yet i brought it 2 days ago but haven't had the time to see it but i was told that they both sang the song from what i saw in the commercial they sounded very good.

He did do the singing, and he was good. Michelle Pfeiffer was terrific in "The Fabulous Baker Boys,"

never sang before or since, to my knowledge.

Yes it was him singing and I agree, he should go into music he has a really good voice!
