Excuse my ignorance but I was thinking of getting an I-Pod.?

The iPod and the iTunes are both for pc and macs equally, only the last generation of iPods can play videos (shuffle and nanos CANNOT play videos even if they are last generation).

Like all have said you can use the ipod on either a pc or on a mac. I use my ipod nano off a pc and it works just fine. Setting one up from out of the box was straightforward the instructions were clear. The itune software is included in the package as well as the usb connector to the pc so no extra cost. Once you load the itune software with an internet connection there would be a search for the updated version of itunes for free download.

Ipod video I know of in 30gb, 60gb etc they do video but music as well.

You can use an non-apple computer with your iPod, but people tell me it doesn't work as well (I have an apple and it works great). Supposedly, those non-iPod ones work better with PC's, and not as well with Apples. I don't know the brands, but some of them are supposed to be good.

And the larger, new iPods play videos. They have smaller ones (meaning the unit is smaller in size, and has less memory) and these are cheaper. Like the iPod nano. I think those hold like 2 thousand songs as opposed to like 10 thousand songs, like the 30 or 40 gig ones.

I have to say, I really enjoy my iPod. I'd certainly grant that it's the coolest toy for adults you can find!

Assuming you are going to buy one of the new generation ipods then, only the ipod video is able to play videos and store photos as well as music. ipod videos come in 30, 60, and 80Gb models.

ipod nanos are only able to store music and photos and come in 2, 4, and 8 Gb models.

The ipod shuffle only plays music.

ipods are compatible both on windows and apple mac operating systems. You will, however need the itunes software which can be downloaded free at www.apple.com, also check this site for more information on ipods. Hope this helps.

it will work with any PC, you need to download the free latest itunes7... and ipod updater from the apple website....

if you buy the video ipod**, it will play everything..

all you do is connect it to PC, put all the songs you want, either ripped from Cd's or lime wire into "my music" file, start itunes up, and in the file menu, choose "add folder" select "my music" and they will all go over onto the ipod.. windows media files (from Cd's) will take a tiny bit longer, as they need a minor conversion.. its all done automatically and is very easy to do.. g/ luck and happy listening..

** make sure you flatten battery fully/re-charge, once a month to extend its working life...

look ive got a ipod mini and i use it up the gym and i love it you can use any pc your ipod will come with a disk you just load it on your pc and bang follow simple instructions download off web or put your own cds on itunes you wont look back trust me the mini ipod doesnt play video but the new ipods do hope thats ok

You can use a regular PC and you will need a usb cord to connect to the ipod to the computer and yes you can download videos if the ipod has the capability. Hope this is helpful. God Bless

Originally you had to use the iPod with a Mac...But for the past few generations(since either the 3rd of 4th generation) they have been usable by both...In fact I think they only give you a USB2.0 cable...If you want to use IEEE1394 that's extra...

USB2.0/IEEE1394 + iTunes = working iPod

I have an ipod, the video playing one,, their ****, the batteries only last about 4 hours, and thats just listening to music, if i watch vids, god knows, maybe 20 mins,, spose to be 20 hours..

but if u want to buy , yea it works off a normal pc, though u will have to search for videora converter software (easy to find) to convert ur files on ur pc , to ipod, very simple to do..
