The moment I saw that, I thought "that's just the sort of thing Gandhi would have said", and by the time I'd checked it on the web, someone else had answered. It's Gandhi all right, at his humorous best.
When he came to Britain in the 1930's, to plead directly for independence for India, there was a newspaper reporter looking for a soundbite who asked him "Well, Mr. Gandhi, what do you think of Western civilization?". Gandhi replied, "I think it would be a very good idea".
