It does work for me. I get many requests for custom designs through my site. However, Rwebgirl is perfectly right. You have to work very very hard to make your site visible in search engines and stand out from the crowed.

Good luck, EVERYONE is trying to do that! Hire a web designer and an SEO (search engine optimizer) or you don't stand a chance. You've got a lot of competition. I don't do this type of work, but my sister does and she doesn't have the $ to hire professionals, so she doesn't get any business through her website. She makes all her $ through art and craft shows.
