Why is it bad to put a window air conditioner on a desk and use it instead of hanging it out the window?
Other then the fact it drops condensation droplets wich could be easilly caught by a towel or something.

It puts out as much hot air as it does cold, so the room would not become cooled. This is because the freeon gas in the air conditioner is sprayed out in a mist which then cools, and the heat given off of the cooling freeon is expelled out the back vents.

The AC needs circulation. It releases cool air from the front while pumping out the hot air from the back...if you have it inside the room, the room will get hotter. Also, it creates a lot of condensation so it will create a puddle on your desk.

Having an air conditioner inside you are heating the air around you in an enclosed space. You will feel the cool air coming form the air conditioner but eventually you will heat the air inside until the air conditioner can no longer function LOL ;-)

By having window air conditioner in a window, and sealing you are creating two sides. hot outside and cold inside.
AC takes the heat from room and throws it out making the room cooler than the outside.
If you have Ac on your desk, then there is no barrier between hot and cold sides, so no cooling will take place..

All in all, the net effect will be to heat up the room. An air conditioner generates more heat than it does "coolness." It only works to cool us off because we keep the hot parts of the machine outside.

The CFCs are released into the air--aka Chlorfluorocarbons--those deplete the ozone--:-( very very bad--I guess putting it on a desk w/ the windows closed is safer because you're not releasing anything. Don't use the air conditioning often--it's bad for the environment--and it's even worse on the hottest days of the year.

You can feel the same effect with your refrigerator. Feel behind the refrigerator and you will feel hot elements, so hot you might not be able to hold your hand on them. That is heat being removed from inside and released in the back.
The refrigerator releases more heat in the back than it removes from the inside. If your landlord doesn't give enough heat, keep your refrigerator door open and you will heat your kitchen.

Have you any idea just how much water it's going to drop?
It's a really bad idea. That's why no one else does it.

why don't you go ahead and try this, then you would have a first hand knowledge of being able to answer questions such as this.
and please let us know, we are always willing to learn new things.

the airconditioner needs the temperature that is outside and it conditions the temperature tat is inside. so we need to keep it hanging.
