How do I kill sand spurs?

    Sand burs. They are annuals. You want to keep the seeds from germinating next season. Either a preemergent or postemergent herbicide will help. Most literature suggest the postemergent......if you can find one. I'm not talking about Round-up but rather somelike MSMA.

    Others are right, sand burs come with low lawn fertility. Thicken the lawn and the annual weed seeds won't germinate. Then we just have to deal with the sand burs and puncture vine in the other areas...........argh!

    Poor soil fertility, lets the sand spurs, goatheads, or stickers hang around. All your soil needs is any form of organic fertilizer or Humate. The sand spurs are a pioneer plant, in other words it is the ONLY thing that will grow in your soil, so by inproving your soil they will just go away.

    Its to late this year to kill sandspurs. you need to treat with a weed killer in the spring.
