What is the cheapest way to fix the A/C in my 1993 Ford Escort? It hasn't worked in like 4 years or more.

If it hasn't worked in that long of time it might be out of freon (R-12) due to a leak in a/c system or the a/c compressor might be seized up, a fuse might be blown, a bad relay or plug on the compresssor, high pressure switch might be bad, It can be many things, Is the compressor spinning when engine is running and a/c is turned on? If so , it only needs a recharge, but the system will have to be switched over to a 134-a freon system, which requires a flush ,2 adaptors to recharge and a new receiver/drier. good luck

If it's an R12 system, it will be expensive just for the recharge.

It can be converted to R134, but the dryer should really be changed out when this is done.

You don't even mention the symptoms. Does the compressor stay running? If so, the charge might still be good.

Don't feel cold air? Maybe the blend door isn't directing the air flow over the A/C coils like it should.

A 1993 might still be on a freon system. If it is, then it will probably be cheaper to replace the car!

Put the windows down, while you drive to the car dealers and buy yourself a Holden. Thats the best way to fix your A/C mate.

recharge it. extra useful to take to a storage because if there's a leak interior the device, they have the (costly) equipment to presurize/depresureize it. as quickly as an AC device will become "opened" it incredibly is going to become contaminated, and frequently won't artwork back till it fairly is purged. Edit - the extra contemporary coolant is frequently no longer as "chilly" because of the fact the older, now banned AC refrigerant
