Can we force a change in Group Ownership?
I am a member of the UKHumour yahoogroup.
The group owner has seemingly lost interest in the group and does not respond to any email.
We want to take control of the group ourselves and help set it back on it's original course.
We would prefer not to start a new group as there is essentially nothing wrong with the existing group which could not be resolved by a more active moderation.
Is there anything we can do?

You would need the owner to appoint someone else as a moderator or owner in order to take over the group. If the owner isn't responding to emails, then this isn't likely to happen. But the group owner is the only one who can appoint new moderators.
So, you would be better off creating your own group. I know that's not an ideal option, but that way you would have control of the moderation of the new group.

No. If the owner does not make you a moderator with full rights to the group functions, you cannot take control of it. Evidently this is not going to happen if he/she does not repond to any email.
Just start another group with a similar name such as "UK_Humour" or "UKHumour2" & invite the old members to join it. Have one person as owner and at least one moderator with full rights to functions. That way, the new group will not wind up abandoned in the future.

No Yahoo will not appoint a new group owner or moderator to any group. This is something I had wanted done to a few groups I actually owned before but my ownerr/moderator ID had been deleted and I asked Yahoo directly if they woud change a friend of mine to the Owner and the answer was no.
