I was using xplay to use my ipod with my new pc for the past few months and with itunes 6 it worked fine. is there a way i can download firmware? am i going to have to get a new ipod?
When i tried to reformat it said, "reformatting failed because firmware could not be found" with itunes 7
Okay, maybe I didn't make this clear, I used to use my ipod on with an iBook. But i got a PC, and it won't let me update unless i reformat, which it won't let me do because the firmware is missing...how do i get the firmware, without going though itunes?

You do not need to get a new ipod. to reformat your ipod. download the softwares privided with the ipod over the existing softwares and when it asks you to conenct ipod to see if ipod needs to be formatted, than connect ipod and select reformat ipod.. this should work...
And to download the newest version of the itunes go to this site: www.apple.com/iTunes. When you downlaod the i-tunes it will automatically download the firmware that is required for your ipod to work with your pc.
good luck!

Firmware is the software that handles any electronic device with a chip, i.e.: computers, calculators, mp3 players, etc. So, u need to upgrade your ipod firmware in order to make it work with the new iTunes, also the firmware makes your device and its OS works more smoothly...
To upgrade your firmware u need to download the last version of iTunes from Apple (www.apple.com/iTunes) and then install it, then the iTunes itself downloads the new firmware and install it in your iPod for you (you need to have the iPod plugged in when you finished install the iTunes 7.0.1)
Good luck!!!
