In the second episode of this season, Sam Braun was shot in the last scene and Catherine is craddling his body. Is he dead or not??? I can't find anything on CBS.com that gives you the facts one way or the other.

Catherine approaches Sam outside a casino, she grills him on the fact that when the Eclipse deal fell through, O'Brien and Hirschoff lost everything they had to the tune of 20 million dollars. Sam calls it part of the business, but Catherine wants to know if Sam has already had Joe Hirschoff killed for what he did to Catherine and Lindsay. Unfortunately Sam hasn't, because Joe walks up behind Sam and shoots him, only to be shot himself by Sam's bodyguards. Sam falls to the ground, blood spilling from his wounds, and Catherine screams for help as she cradles her father's dying body.

I think he is dead. From the location of the wound it makes it look like a chest/heart shot

he is dead it is mention briefly when catherine is talking to brass she mentioned that like him she has to work to keep her mind off the tragedy brass as you know was shot in the finale of last season and came back to work to keep his mind off of it
