A Ban on the game of Tag?

Yes, folks it's true. An elementary school in Boston has banned children from playing tag, touch football and other chasing games at recess. This comes on the heels of the Dallas, TX 5th grade teacher who was fired for taking her students on a field trip to an ART MUSEUM because there were nude statues/paintings there.

I am appauld. I think this is insanity. What are your views on this subject?

I have a child in a California school and his school actually bans the game of tag. I think it is ridiculous and ludicrous. I hate to imagine what our country is coming to if our children are going to be coddled by the system like this. No art, no competition, no risks, it will come back to bite our country in the ***. In another 10-20 years, we are going to have a generation of snot nosed illiterate brats who don't know how to take a risk - even more so than is coming up in this current generation.

  • I find it ridiculous. Now in today's society, people are "protecting" their children when they are really looking for attention. The fact is, these people who don't want their children to be "touched" during child-like games are overprotecting, self-absorbed jackass's.

The only reason they are saying things now is that they probably weren't the most popular people in High School and are now getting attention by lashing out at schools the most, the place where they didn't get that type of attention.

The parents don't realize that they are making a much bigger deal than the subject really needs. The teacher who was suspended, didn't harm the children or their minds. She shouldn't have been fired because it was the school's fault for allowing the field trip.

On that note, nude statues/paintings aren't wrong, they provide another point of view on life by someone with a higher intellect than the viewer. If parents want to "protect" their kids, let them experience life the way it was meant to be experienced, first hand and not controlled by a higher force.

Two things come to mind: 1) the litigeousness of our society is having a real cost in the education of our children. In this example, how are kids to learn to be competative? How are kids suposed to learn to play by the rules when you're on your own - no adult supervision and no referee? These games are not just physical exercise which, G-- knows, our overweight kids need desperately, but also teach how to get along and manage yourself in a "game" environment. That's what the world is. 2)This is exemplary of how contrary our politically correct society has become. All the hue and cry about equality of the sexes and the need for women to compete and learn the rules of the game, i.e. "the Playing Fields of Eaton". Not every activity is supervised. I note that even playgrounds have been sanitized so that most of the truly phyisical activities are gone like monkey bars, trapeze, etc. Sad. To quote Dean Wormer (Animal House), "Fat, dumb and stupid is no way to go through life, son..." Well that's what we're institutionalizing in our schools if this type of hysterical approach to play takes hold.

sheer idiocy! Why is this even an issue? As far as I know, tag and flag football do not hurt children, they teach them teamwork and allow them to make friends. And the nude statue part is absurd! 5th graders are much more mature than that makes them out to be! I would reward a teacher for scheduling an academic art field trip. Wow, this is how low we've gotten.
