What law states you need to file a 1040 with the IRS?
Could someone point out the law in the US Code that says I have to file taxes. It seems no-one in the IRS knows where to find it.

Title 26 of the United States Code, Section 1 (26 USC 1) is the law (statute) that says all in the US have to pay a % of their income as a tax to the US government.

The following site states that the 1040 is just one of 3 types of that form that must be filed. Check it out and it should be of help:
