Is long term care ins. an appropriate X-mas present for aging parents?

My mother's family has a history of dementia and she is currently dealing with putting her own parents in a nursing home. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion about me buying long term care insurance for my parents as a continuing X-mas present, as its hard to find them things they would need or want, the older they get.

I would say yes, because of the history of dementia. Most people do not know the cost involved in nursing home care. Very prudent on your part.

You have wonderful intentions but I don't know if Christmas is really the appropriate time to give a gift like that... You're parents are lucky to have such a considerate and caring child = ).

yes, good intentions but i dont think your parents wants to be reminded of them aging. you should be giving them something that will make them happy and feel useful. take them out to a nice dinner or treat them to a massage at a spa. send them on a cruise or something. if you really want to by them a long term care insurance, don't do it for their christmas present but do it out of the blue.

as a care worker id say it's something that you should sit down and talk about with your parents. its not something to give as a surprise on Xmas morning. this is an issue in which all parties involved need to be fully aware of one-anothers wishes

While they may not see it as a wonderful idea, I do. It indicates to me that you care enough about them to be concerned about their quality of lives. Your gift is from your heart. You have my vote!
