Why are engineers in the Philippines degraded?
Most companies in the Philippines required their engineers to do the job of a technician. Is it shameful? In other countries an engineer is an engineer.

almost everything in the philippines can be explained by money and economy. engineers in the philippines are not degraded. but you need to consider that the economy of the usa is a lot bigger than that of the philippines. for this reason, both economy work in different ways. as a result salaries and wages are also different. lower salaries in the usa might let the engineers feel that they are degraded, but here, it is part of life. meaning if you cannot hack it, then leave.

I think it's because most companies only recognize those who graduated from universities that are popular or have a high standard of education. And i think it's also because there isn't a high demand for engineers in the Philippines, and people need to work so they just get what they are given, just like what you mentioned, engineering graduates working as technicians. I do not think it is shameful, but i think it does kinda make the engineers degraded, and their degrees useless, that's why most of them work abroad. They get treated better, paid higher, and work what they studied for. In this island where I live now, companies seek Filipino engineers and even support them and take care of their visa, and they get paid high to work for what they studied for!

Are they? It is shameful. From where I come form, Filipino engineers are the best. Besides, ever heard the quote 'before there were scientists, there were engineers'? But I'm sorry to say that technician is part of the engineering world. If u pass that level, then u get upgraded to a better position. But I have to say, it IS sad.

Many schools in the Philippines are not up to international standards and could be categorized as paper mills. The General level of education could be classified as 'dismal' according to a recent editorial in the 'Philippine Star' newspaper. Of course, there are some very good universities such as University of the Philippines, U. of Santo Thomas, Ateneo, LaSalle, just to mention a few

My dad is a mechanical engineer.
The Philippines isn't very good place to earn money, that's why people go abroad.
My dad's nephew is a doctor, he studied in the Philippines but was forced to study nursing just to go abroad.
Your skills are just wasted if you stay in the Philippines.

I think it is because there are not enough jobs to go around. Most engineers have to settle for what they can get. Most of them find jobs in different fields and not necessarily related to what they studied for in college.
