I have 240 watts coming into the building. What kind of surge proctector do you recommend?

I am getting power surges on some of my equipment and computers. I know I need a battery backup for the computers. What level of protection should I get?

Depending on the equipment, you will need a different level of protection. If you have lots of very sensitive equipment, you may consider a panel-mounted built-in surge protector and then several battery backup units with line regulation. I use American Power Conversion www.apc.com units because they have a proven track record and provide an equipment replacement warranty in case the surge protector fails. On my gaming computer, I have a line leveler to make sure that the power into the system is always a uniform, clean sine wave and not subject to lots of noise. In addition, I have a 1250 joule surge protector as a backup just in case something gets through the line regulator.

Many battery backup units will have the line regulator built in. APC sells refurbished units with a warranty for very reasonable prices.

By the way, I think you mean 240 volts entering the building. Volts is comparable to the size of pipe, watts is the amount of water in the pipe given a certain length of pipe. The power company sells you 240 volts, and tracks your use in watts per hour.

You mean 240 amps? 240 watts isn't even enough power to run a computer and a monitor at the same time.
