"Kaya mo ba 'to?"?
Dear Pinoys and Pinays! This phrase keeps coming up in TV and newspaper promotions all the time, especially on programs like "Eat Bulaga." What in heaven's name is the translation? This "kano" would like to know.
And, if you feel up to the challenge, what is the meaning of the even more enigmatic "kayang-kaya mo ba 'to?"

Kaya refers to one's ability to do something. So "kaya mo ba 'to" can be translated to "can you handle this?"
When the word is repeated as in "kayang-kaya" the sense of the word intensifies. So it would be translated to the effect of "can you really handle this?"

It's a challenge, a dare to prove your ability by doing something.
Kaya mo ba 'to is literally : "Can you do this?"
Kayang-kaya mo ba to : "Can you really do this well?"

Well it means - are you up to the challenge? - can you do this? - can you really do this?
And challenges are not the normal stuffs or easy ones, usually it involves games or food that you don't usually do or eat.
