Metal and glass have a different freezing temp. For example, frost will form on a car when the temperature hits 36 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cars are often the first places where frost forms, because they are naturally efficient radiators and lose their heat very quickly. Secondly, you say that the temp was only 40, but where was that taken? Temperatures on clear calm mornings can vary drastically over short distances, with natural hollows or dips being much colder than higher ground.

Although i does not get below 40 degrees, your wind chill factor causes the temperature to freeze the moisture on your car.

  • Lots of moisture in the air and wind--wind chill definitely changes the way things function outside.
