What is the best solution for clearing up my golden retrievers skin, he has had hot spots and pulls hair out?
he has had shots of cortizone, and tried tea bags, nothing seems to work. I feel sorry for him, he is constantly itching and it is nonstop. I do not know what to do with him. I also have tried benadryll, it just calms he down some. Any solutions??

A hot spot is an allergic reaction that has erupted on the skin. Try Flea prevention every 30 days, hypo-allerginic food and your vet. can give you a spray for the skin called Genisis spray. It is a topical steriodal spray and with all of these things combined you should see a huge differance. Prednisone works wonders to, but it is a steriod and can not be used long term, due to the health problems it can cause.

My dog is mixed with golden retriever and he had the same problem. I went to the pet store and bought a spray for Hot Spots, but they didn't really clear up. After switching the food his skin cleared up A LOT, turns out 9 out of 10 people who feed their dogs Beneful, their dogs have skin problems...we found that out at the pet store. So I would try switching your food.

You can wash him in a aloe and green tea shampoo. If the problem is beyond that get a topical hot spots cream and rub the dog from head to toe. This will sooth the dog. Plain aloe may be another option!

I would try a Veterinary Dermatologist for your dog, they may be able to better help your dogs skin problem. The initial cost may be alittle bit more than a regular vet visit, however, if it will help your dog it will be well worth it. Good Luck.

Well, if those are hot spots, try bathing him once a week. There`s also a special oil to treat hot spots and sarnna. I believe you can get them in pet shops or in veteranies clinics. It`s so nice to see people who cares for their pets.

switch to a higher quality food and have him tested by a vet. chances are its a food allergy caused by cheap fillers in typical grocery store dog food. any food with corn in the first 6 ingredients is garbage. (Science Diet, Iams, and Eukanuba all fall into this category.
