You should stretch before and after any strenuous activity, and you should stretch each area for 10-15 seconds in time the longer the better, it will help your performance and help you not pull a muscle.

As often as I like. I start with my neck and back in the morning. It usually takes a few minutes. Hold for 10-20 seconds, then repeat, repeat....It helps me to loosen up after a good night's sleep.
