I believe that there is a god, the creator of all that is, and whose nature is a mystery. I believe that God is alive and eternal. No book will ever define God, because it would have to be as living and eternal as God is. Definition implies limits which simply are not applicable to an omnipotent god.

I think it is a waste of time to try to shoe-horn God into the Bible or the Torah or Qu' ran or any religious text.

I take the Bible as words of God rather than THE word of God. In my view, if God has not spoken since the before the Council of Trent when the books of the Bible were finally put together, then God has been dead since before then. And as I said in the second sentence, God is alive, so God must have said something since then and must still be speaking now.

I challenge all of you who read this: you are a word of God. What will your meaning be?

I own three different versions of the Bible and have spent many years searching for truth, only to find that there is none. The Old Testament is a bunch of stories and laws written by Hebrew politicians to control a few thousand people stuck in the Mid East 2500 years ago. The New Testament is a fabrication of the early Catholic church to gain control of Europe 400 years ago. The history of the life of Jesus has been so distorted that it is impossible to know what to believe. That said, I believe in a Creator, but not one that spends his days watching over little old Earth like a favorite TV show He's seen before. Our religions and Gods are myths of our own creation. Whatever reality is is beyond our comprehension.

My major contention is I have trouble worshipping/idolizing an angry, judgmental god who has less patience than myself. If I can find it in my heart to forgive people and not judge them, understanding that their growth is a process and an evolution, then the highest of all beings certainly should be the last to judge anyone, especially his own creations. The God of the Bible is like an angry man. Jesus and the Buddha were both EXTREMELY compassionate, loving, forgiving people. Are you telling me that God has wants and needs such as the human ego does? Are you telling me that the Almighty Highest could actually be offended by something he created? Do you think God is so ignorant to condemn someone to eternal damnation simply because one does not follow a certain rule? The God of the Bible is in the image and likeness of a jealous, egotistical tyrant. In my eyes, God, the highest love there is, is way beyond the comprehension, the compassion and the understanding we as humans are capable of. Do yourself a favor and not limit God to humaness...

I believe in the God of the Bible but I don't believe that the God of the Bible is the god that many people think He is based on their interpretations of the Bible. My contention is that God has revealed Himself to me. I am a Catholic. That's it!

I grew up christian and do consider myself one. I think of the bible like I think of a lot of other books. A tool to learn from.

The bible and other religious texts are mankinds attempt at explaining the natural world on his terms. There is nothing inherently wrong with that, in fact, in can be quite enlightening.

The bible is meant to be a book of allegory (the old testament in particular). It's stories are meant to convey meaning, not necessarily supply historical truth.

In grade school, we were often told about the story of the tortoise and the hare. I don't think any of us really sat at our desks wondering whether or not the tortoise and the hare really existed, because there was a moral to the story. A truth that transcended mere facts and figures.

It is no wonder that religious texts, along some Shakespeare novels are probably the most printed texts of all-time. They are the most printed because they reveal truths in ourselves that a 10th grade history book could never.

The bible promotes misogyny (fathers giving their daughters to be gang-raped!) and intolerance for other cultures (God kills a bunch of weirdos who worship a Golden Calf. Just let them be!)

Also, the details that can be factually checked by science, such as the age of the earth, have been proven to be wrong.

Finally, the bible has been written by a bunch of humans, and has been translated/lost/found/retranslated over many years, so you can't be sure you have a complete or correctly translated work. (Not to mention, it is fiction.) It's not a RECENTLY written fiction, like the Book of Mormon or Dianetics (Scientology), but that does not make it more legitimate.

The reason why we need religion is because we do not realize that humans on themselves can't maintain. That's why God the father exists, we do not fully realize that God's commandments are a sacred laws of virtue; we don't see virtue being sacred. If we in this world applied all the negative things to our lives we as humans will not exist, but if we keep applying everything that is of virtue we will realize we are not only destroying our bodies but also our spirits within, which I believe it's our true and natural selves. We have to realize that we are not only part of the universe but participants of it. We have to magnify the spiritual power within us, but only through righteousness can such power be magnified. All things that are of matter of this world come from pure energy, we are energy, our spirits are energy, we are One in God and God within us. God is Omni potent, Omni scient, and Omni present (in spirit), that is why God is an emotional God. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saint believes that God was once man, but before he became God he found and mastered the spirit within himself. The forefathers of America build this nation under the sacred laws of virtue.

    Proverbs: Chapter 8 verse 22-33:

22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor athe highest part of the dust of the world.

27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

    30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

I am a Christian and believe the Holy Bible is the Word of the one true God. I don't dispute that others worship other gods but that is their choice to do so
