How safe do you feel knowing Congress ended Habeas Corpus w/o knowing it?

I haven't felt safe since 9/11 and NOT because I am afraid of terrorists. The worst thing about the terrorists is that they gave Bush the ability to scare us into giving up all our civil liberties.

All someone has to do is ACCUSE you and you can be held without bail, without even being allowed to contact your family to let them know where you are. This act and others recently passed, such as the Patriot Act and the Real ID Act take away our rights to privacy, to habeas corpus, to speedy and fair trial, and to other rights guaranteed by our constitution and by international law.

Instead, we now have: Secret detention; Enforced disappearance; Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment; Outrages upon personal dignity, including humiliating treatment; Denial and restriction of habeas corpus; Indefinite detention without charge or trial; Prolonged incommunicado detention; Arbitrary detention; and Unfair trial procedures.

These things are already happening in the US. With this new Military Commissions Act, there is worse to come. What is happening to us now is very much like what happened in Germany during the 1930's.

P. S. Most members of Congress didn't read the Patriot Act, either, before voting for it.

The dirty secret of Congress is that they rarely read laws in full before passing them.
