Freedom of Press - US drops from 17 to 56 on scale of 168 countries. Is this cause for concern?

Or just a meaningless, biased survey?

Seing as this article (published in a very conservative newspaper) is citing these disturbing numbers about how our government is infringing on the constitutionaly guarenteed free press, it should be a concern.

This is yet another example of the unconstitutional actions taken by this administration.

The free press is the second to last line of defence in the event of a corrupt government. The next line of defence is the second ammendment.

Seems like a pretty bizarre poll if non-governmental action against journalists is taken into account. Lebanon fell 50-some places because Israel invaded them and terrorists tried to bomb journalists? Doesn't sound much like Lebanon's fault to me...

Still, any American who brushes aside government suppression of the press in this country because it doesn't like the political leaning of the press outlet misses the point of "freedom of the press" entirely.

Oh yes, a washington post survey.

That's a good thing to just go ahead and ignore.

What standing does "Reporters without borders" have? I don't remember voting for them. As far as I'm concerned, it's worthless.
