Niagra or Grand Canyon?

Has anyone been to both or even just one? If so, which one did you enjoy more and why?

I would like to visit both and cannot decide which one to go to first. Thanks!

Update:

Just wanted to add this since everyone keeps asking about time. When I do go to either one - I will plan a week vacation. Thanks for all your comments.

Update 2:

There are so many good answers that I am going to put this up for vote. Thanks to you all!

How much time do you have for it.

The Grand Canyon is magnificent, but needs some degree of time to view it properly

Niagara can be done confortably in a day

Been to both, Niagra more than once.

I would say it depends on how much time you have. For a LOT in a short time, Niagra is better, I think. There are several things you can do there, the boat ride at the falls, walking under the falls, the cable car ride, parks, lots of shops and "touristy" things in town, etc.

If you have a longer amount of time, Grand Canyon is good. Then, you can schedule hikes, maybe a mule ride, a ride down the river, etc. Otherwise, it is kind of a "ooh, itsn't it pretty" type thing, which, while REALLY amazing and overwhelming, can wear thin pretty quickly. I'd love to go back there for two weeks, so I could REALLY see the canyon the right way!

You might consider Bryce Canyon, as well. In my mind, it is even prettier, in a totally different way, smaller, hiking is easier, etc.

Oh, it also depends on if you are a "touristy" person (definitely Niagra) or more of an earthy, outdoorsman comfortable with a more isolated setting (Grand Canyon).

Either way, you are sure to have LOTS of fun -- I envy you!

The Grand Canyon is far better. Niagra Falls is full of tacky tourist traps. The falls look great for about ten minutes, you can take a boat ride up to them and a tour in a cave behind them, that's it. The Grand Canyon has far better views and you still can see nature there.

The Grand Canyon is a wonder of the world. You travel there to see the natural beauty and to be overwhelmed by mother nature.

Niagra Falls is beautiful and tacky all at once. It is very commercialized. Both are worth visiting. But they are very different trips.

    Nature and Beauty---Grand Canyon

Some nature and alot of partying---Niagra Falls

I have been to both several times and loved them both. Both places are at the top of the list in their own category so u can't go wrong with either. What I would do is go to the Grand Canyon and combine that trip with a visit to Hoover Dam and Las Vegas and you will be happy.

Been to both, prefer Grand Canyon, but NORTH rim, not South. Call the North Rim Lodge early for reservations - there is a waiting list.

Why? Much more awesome experience than Niagara, plus the trip there is incredible, through some remote and very scenic country.

Again - do not settle to the South Rim - you must make the trip to the North Rim!!

I have been to Niagra Falls, and it is a magnificent sight. But if I had a choice, I'd much rather see the Grand Canyon.
