Psychologists: In your own words, where do you part company with Carl Jung?

Please don't merely paste a section from a search query as I will know it, delete the question, and no one will get ten points. I would appreciate a proper answer in your own words from those who practice psychology as a vocation or those who honestly have an interest in analytical psychology.

Thank you for your attention and for your answers.

Well, I don't practice psychology as a vocation yet; I'm only a grad Psych student. but I really like Jung so I'm going to give your question a whack!

My answer would be A LOT longer if you asked where I art company with Freud! LOL But, not to cop out: I agree with probably 80% of Jung's teachings and theories. I'm a huge adherent of synchronicity, as I see you are. I'm always looking for the source of those "meaningful coincidences" and truly do think they are not mere chance, but a tear in that fabric of underlying perfect order that allows us to catch a glimpse of a pwer we can tap into.

I also like his "collective archetype" thoughts, and I think the Meyers-Briggs indicator--which he was instrumental in developing-- is VERY helpful and accurate. So...I guess where I part company with ol' Carl Gustav is on his whole "anima and animus" thing. if I understood him correctly, those are the two forces that drive men and women subconsciously. And while I realize they were metaphors, I can't buy into his idea that, if we don't acknowledge those forces, they project themselves onto others so we can see them. He thought that was what "love at first sight" was: us seeing our projected animus or anima on that person.

I also think he got a bit too far into the paranormal. I don't believe in contact with the spirit world, or in Astrology. Other than that, Carl's my man!
