Is the Fox network whacked or what? Not the news channel- the network.?
In the past 5 years I think the Fox network has made some really crazy desicions. First they have this great show called Firefly that gets 12 episodes in and they cancel it. Now it's a BIG cult show!!! Then they have a first full season of John Doe and that gets cancelled. Then they cancel Futurama and now there are rumors that it will be coming back. Finally, they cancel King of the Hill and fan demand appears to have succeeded in resurrecting it and new shows will be out in Jan. '07.
Given the history of some TV shows i.e. the original Star Trek which became more popular in syndication, why don't networks give a show a real chance? Firefly and John Doe were great shows and would have loved to still be tuning in to see them. Firefly at least got resolution with the movie Serenity but poor John Doe never got to find out who he was or why he was the way he was. I read an article saying that the premise of John Doe was that he was a dead man reannimated and had as much info downloaded
into him as the Phoenix group could- which apparently was every fact known on earth at the time. They said they might do a movie to wrap it up but now that Dominic Purcell is in Prison Break- I doubt that Doe will ever get resolution. So am I wrong in saying Fox doesn't know what the heck they're doing? The ratings may have started low for these shows but keep in mind- Cheers on NBC wasn't on the map for years before it became one of TV's greatest hits! Stupid Fox and their reality shows!

Fox is definitely screwy, but they will sometimes bend to the will of fan favorites...which is how Family Guy got back on the air. The same strategy kept Arrested Development around for as long as it did (not long enough IMHO, but whatever...it's on DVD, thank goodness for small favors.) But i've been sick of Fox since it screwed me over with Titus and Grounded for Life, both really funny shows, again IMHO. I also watched John Doe, Dark Angel and that anthology show hosted by Henry Rollins. All cancelled. I was actually one of the crazed fans begging for Firefly to be given a second chance. And we all know how that turned out. Anyway, i think the programming decisions are made by zombies or some otherwise brain addled being because the decisions are SO BAD and out of touch with what the viewers actually WANT TO SEE. Even the GOOD reality shows...and that's an oxymoron for sure, have been axed. Seriously, Kiefer Sutherland, escaped cons, Seth MacFarlane, The Simpsons and House cannot keep a network afloat...or can they??

Fox is no worse than any of the other networks. In some ways, Fox is better, because which of the other major networks would have brought back a show that had been cancelled for a year or more, i.e., Family Guy? I can't think of any. I know there have been shows that had been cancelled on one network, to be resurrected on another, but I don't know of any show that came back to the same network after a significant period of time had passed.

I do agree that Fox has made some bad calls (cancelling Family Guy, only to bring it back later, for example), but at the same time, you can never know what shows are going to become cult classics. And truly, shows like Family Guy and Futurama are hot mostly because of [adult swim] gave them a home.
Futurama is coming back with new episodes, but on Comedy Central. And regardless, Fox continues to carry great shows like House, the Simpsons, and Family Guy. I don't think we can blame them for cancelling shows that had a small cult following--because that's not really what advertiesers are looking for.

I actually have a DVD called "Out Foxed". Its all about the owner of the Fox corporation and how controlling he is with his companies. It is insane seeing all the power that this one man has. With the push of a button he can cancel 10 shows on 8 diffrent networks and it wouldn't even phase him.

They make very bad decisions about what shows to keep and what shows to cancel. They also put good shows on bad nights when there is too much competition for viewers.

Wow...I didn't know "King of the Hill" had been cancelled. I really liked that show. It was as funny as "The Simpsons" I am glad it will be back because fans griped.
