Small holes in tooth at gum line. How long can I go w/o going to Dentist?

We purchased dental health insurance but it won't start until November.. and has a 6mo waiting period on everythng but cleanings. So do you think I can make it 6 months w/ small holes in my jaw teeth at the gum line? They don't hurt unless I poke at it & they are not black. Just holes.

I was recently pregnant twice, back to back, I think I had a calcium defeciency that caused this.

I also had another tooth that the dentist did a root canal on but when he filled it he left one side open on accident! (Its at the very back on my upper jaw teeth. He just couldn't tell I guess)There is a big hole right into my tooth. In your opinion will this become painful & cause more problems before I can use my insurance?

keep your teeth as clean as possible...use hydrogen peroxide after you brush...swish it for at least 1 minute. it will get into the holes and clean out any debris. get some dent-temp o.s. walmart is the cheapest...about $3.99. it comes in a tiny blue container with a snap-on lid and is a greyish-white color, so it's not that noticeable. after thoroughly cleaning your teeth, using small amounts on your finger, smear and press the dent-temp over the holes, several times to make sure it gets in deep. you don't have to dry your mouth or teeth before you use it...the saliva helps it to set . you can't eat or drink anything for a few hours, so it's best to apply it at bedtime. if it wears off...a few weeks to a few months later, reapply. this stuff is really great. you can use it to re-cement fillings and crowns too. do get to the dentist just as soon as your insurance allows so that you don't have to have too many root canals. best of luck.

It all depends on your tooth, actually. Teeth tend to start hirting whenever they feel like it. I think that if you make it a point to avoid really sweet or cold foods, you can probably make it to November without seeing the dentist. I once had a cavity for like 5 years before it finally started hurting.

Because of your calcium deficiency, you may want to look into some calcium supplements. I don't know if there are any on the market that actually regenerate tooth enamel, but it can at least prevent more cavities from forming maybe. Also, you may want to try a new mouthwash that's out (I think it's by Listerine) that actually claims to regenerate tooth enamel. If that doesn't work, you should look into bonding your front teeth. My boyfriend did that and it looks amazing!

I had the same problem with my tooth and i went a Long time without getting it fixed because i was scared of the dentist. Well it ended up getting infected really bad. My mouth looked like i put a golf ball on the side of it. I had to take antibiotics for several days. Then i had to come in to get the tooth removed. It took 7 needles to numb my mouth because of all the infection. I think u will be fine unless it been like that for a while. If your mouth has any swellings to it i would make an emergency appointment because that is a sign of infections.

the small holes u are talking about at gum line, sound like abrasion cavities, basically from brushing to hard or acidic drinks ( many reasons) if there not painful then they will probably be ok to wait, the root canal tooth is a different matter, if he hasnt not filled it properly then it will probably cause pain, and that hole will not get any smaller,

its a risk u will have to take

I had one that I ignored for about a year before going to the dentist. And only because it was starting to hurt real bad.

When I got there I was told by the Dentist that he could not fill it in and that's when my nightmare began. When he tried extracting it, it broke at the root and I had to undergo minor surgery.

Try not to delay it too long.

I have the same thing going on right now, mine started just like yours and is now a hole. I don't have any insurance and am saving to go to the dentist. I wouldn't wait. Mine seems to be getting bad quicker than most cavities would.

It sounds like you have multiple problems. Best to tell Dentist abt your financial situation- usually they will work out a payment plan. Do not wait 6 mos. Make that appt today ! And yes, pain may be involved if you wait. Good luck. RN in Ca.

It is a routine thing to remove teeth that have rotted off below the gum line or to take out the roots. Special instruments and techniques are used and there should be no pain or problems. Tell him not to worry.
