Do you think it should be illegal to use your neightbors W-Fi if they leave it unsecured?

Personally I think if they don't secure it then it means they are sharing it.

Nope, I don't think it should be illegal. Why you may ask? Simple, they buy a router, routers always come unsecured as factory default (ones that you buy from a store, not ones that you get from an Internet provider; those are usually secured when you get them), it is then the consumers RESPONSIBILITY to lock down their network, if they don't then FREE Internet for anyone who can receive the AP signal. =D

I'm kind of inbetween beause if it were my network I'd want it to be illegal for my neighbors to use my WI-FI beause I paid for the equpiment for it and I should be the only to use it, but also dont think it should be illegal if they are unsecure beause if you choose not to protect it you are basiclly sharing it with everyone in your area, which is cool for everyone else around. In my old neighboorhood we had an Open Wi-Fi, so my friend with a PSP would always come near my house just to get on the Internet. But since my dad doenst protect the network I think its perfectly okay if someone from the outside goes on it, until they do something stupid and illegal and it gets traced back to you. lol

illegal? no. most people are generally too stupid to turn on their computer let alone securing their wireless network. it would just be one more password they have to remember in their life. sure people will complain about it and what not, BUT you have the ability to change that by reconfiguring your network settings. number one answer as to why they didn;t do it? they didn't know how to. SO, again out of human ignorance and stupidity we;ll be getting more ridiculous laws governing matters like this all because someone was too stupid to know how to secure their network so others couldn't steal it. seems to be the way of the world really. can't prey on the stupid anymore without some sort of legal action involved.

Yes its illegal since the majority of the population are not computer literate. They probably don't know or won't try to set up security.

It is not illegal, but it is wrong...you dont know if your neighbors do not know how to secure the line. This is more a conscious question, it depends on if you think it is right.

I think the government is trying to get in our lives and regulate every f*cking thing! I think if people aren't smart enough to turn on the security then we don't need to spend our tax money on regulations! What, are they going to start throwing people in jail???

  • It is illegal. It's considered unauthorized access to a computer network.

It's like sitting outside your neighbor's window and watching their TV just because they left the shades open.

If you are not paying for it then you are stealing it. Yes, it should be illegal. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
