I need to file chapt 7 personal bankruptcy. I don't know how to do it on my own and cannot afford a lawyer.

After a long period of disability and a financially devastating divorce I have no realistic option but to file chapt 7. I've put this off for ages as I tried to save for legal fees. One creditor has begun court proceedings which I have thus far ignored. I need to end this asap and begin anew. My credit was perfect for decades before this disaster. I do not take this lightly at all, but now that it has happened to me, I just want to fix it and start over. Any advice on how to begin filing the paperwork, online resources to help guide me, etc. would be most helpful and greatly appreciated.

Get your phone book out and find Legal Aid for your area. The legal work is free and you'll get rid of the debts, headaches and finally have a good night's sleep!! Online, try www.legalhelpers.com or www.totalbankruptcy.com for more help. Take care!!

Check with your local United Way Agencies to see if there are any free legal clinics in your area. Check with your local law schools to see if any of the students need to get experience that can cut you a deal (under instructors help), or contact a professional consumer credit counseling center for options and steps that can take you to the next step without making awful mistakes that many people make. The link below is to an agency that only represents non profit consumer credit agencies. Go to the "take the first step" link. This service is totally FREE.

You cannot file without an attorney. There are some attorneys who will do it for a small fee. However, you'll have to come up with the cash before they will help you. It is like being between a rock and a hard place. I understand what you're going through. My sister had the same thing happen.

Apply for a Pro Bono (Free Attorney) through your local courts. Call the Bankruptcy court for the information. Depending on your income you may qualify for this service.

If you are able to file bankruptcy put down everything you may want to file even your gym memberships, anything, because the small stuff is what people tend to forget!!! You may even put people who say you owe them money on your bankruptcy and they will not be able to sue you!!!! Read up on filing bankruptcy before you actually begin the process.

    Good Luck.

Source(s): Pro Bono Application is what you will ask for. Good Luck! Call your local Bankruptcy court for this information. I work for a lawyers office.

You need a lawyer. My inlaws just filed and got jacked around. But get a lawyer, most will work with you on payment and some won't charge you much at all. Start making phone call and weigh out your options.
