temp gauge goes up to normal and then goes down to o then goes back up.open radiator after driving low pressur
my 1990 civic 4wd's temp guage goes to normal then goes as low as possible like it has no temp.then seems to go back up after a while (seems like when it idles).its a cold day today 20 degrres and lots of snow.i opened the radiator cap after drivin it a while and it opened fine with little pressure.added antifreeze but its topped off now...maybe Radiator cap?air bubble in system?any help is appreciated..oh yeah..the heat still works when the guage reads 0.can i drive it like this?

Yes, Bad Thermostat. It is stuck OPEN or it is missing completely and not allowing the engine to maintain the needed temperature. This also will cause you to have poor mileage as the engine thinks it always needs more fuel.
Replace the Thermostat and save money and gain performance.

id get a new radiator cap with the same lb pressure on it and if that doesnt fix the problem a new thermostat you can change them yourself and only cost about $15 and $2 for a new gasket

Check the electrical connection of the gauge, looks like its loosing contact from time to time. Yea, you can drive it, but if gauge stop working alltogether you can overheat without even knowing it.

Thats a thermostat problem I have seen this too many times... god luck.... parts and labor is not more than $100...

It might a bad indacator sensor.
