Whirlpool Gas Dryer spinning, not heating?

I've cleaned the lint trap, the outtake vent (I think that's the name), I also checked to make sure the gas is turned on. What else can I do? Besides buy a new one. It's approx. 5yrs old

Update:

Where would I look to see if the pilot is on.

Update 2:

Also, how do I clean or check the ignitor?

Have you checked your breaker. Also, are you aware there in an internal fuse on your dryer (gas or elec,) Check the back of the dryer for a diagram of internal parts. I replaced mine myself. Saved $ 45. service charge. before you give up , you might clean the ignightor. It may have built up carbon on the air flo valve.

Source(s): As for the drum not spinning. This is more than likely the belt. You are aware that there is a large belt around it. You might luck out as I did once. A sock had worked its way onside somehow. All I had to do was remove the sock then .... wala .. it worked!

Either the ignitor, the coils, or a simple fuse on the back side have gone bad. Since it is only five years old, it won't have a pilot light. Best guess at this distance would be the fuse on back side. If you have access, you can take a voltage read at the ignitor when you turn it on. No power would indicate the backside fuse is gone.

Try this, it won't cost you anything. Take the lint trap to the kitchen faucet and run water over the screen. If it holds drops of water, even though the screen looks clean it means it has an oily film. Use soapy warm water with a soft brush.

I didn't believe it when I read about this idea online, but it really was true of our washroom dryer.

get a service person in it might be the gas soliniod that is shot. talk to the service people about it and the cost to replace it verses the cost of a new dryer. sometimes it is the pilot light that is shot too check it out or a simple sensor

Sounds like the temp disc or heating relay could be bad, that controls the gas valve, that's worth having a repairman look at it, cost for part around 25.00 put one on yesterday, good luck

If your not sure where to look for a pilot light then call a repairman. Gas dryers are not something to be taken lightly. If you are not sure, you could have MAJOR problems if it is not done correctly, like massive pressuriation of your domicle including free relocation for you and your house/apt.

The igniter may be in-operatable. You need a service man to look at it.

Is there a pilot light? Is it lit?
