What is the role of a congressman?

I feel stupid for asking this question, but I have recently began taking an interest in politics. I live in Palm Beach county Florida and I follow up on my elected officials and those running for office this November. For the most part I understand the role of the U.S. Senate and House of Reps. working in Washington on the Federal level while the State Senate and House of Reps. work in Tallahassee on the State level, but my question is what exactly does my elected congressman do in terms of his role in office? Is he representing me at the Federal or State level and what is he suppose to be doing?

The role of a congressman is to represent the district he or she was elected from in the house of representatives in cogress. For instance, your congressman should be making sure the voice of his or her electorate is being heard. The whold point is that you should elect someone who you think would best represent your view to the other politicitans who make the law. Congress is made up of two sections, the House and the Senate. The population in each state is divided into districts that then elect a person to represent them to the rest of the government. I hope this helps.

A congress man is another term for U.S. representative. He represents your district on a federal level. His job is to get your district all of the money possible to fund any organizations that may help you. I also live in flordia Broward county to be exact.

You need to find out what distrinct you are in and call your representative up. It is his or her job to do everything in his or her will to fix any legal problems or answer any legal questions such as the one you are asking right now. the state of florida has 27 congressman and 2 senators, bill nelson(who is up for re-election this nov 7) and mel martinez. My representative is Alcee hasting. He sucks and I can not run against him b/c I am not 25.

Usually when referring to congressman, it's on a federal level. They are suppose to be there to represent the interest of their constituency and constituents.

Let's see, "Politician: Somebody whose main political motive is self-advancement".

This should just about sum it up, eh?

Their job is to get the most pork for themselves and their wealthy supporters.

Why do they have $10,000-a-plate dinners and not $10-a-plate dinners?

    Hmmmmm.
