Is there a cheaper way to wire money besides Western Union?
My sister needs to wire me some money and I don't have a checking account. I remember seeing an ad on TV for a place that said $9.95 any where any amount!! But I don't remember the name. Western Union and Money Gram charge about $45 to $55 to send $200!!! I think that's a bit much. Hope someone can help!
Thanks!

Actual that ad was for money gram. You might want to try wal-mart. They usually charge the lowest. That 45 to 55 sound like you trying to use a Credit Card. Which they can charge a lot more.
Does your sister have a debit card or credit card with either Visa or MasterCard on it. She could get a cash advance at banks and some truck stops. ID will be required for this.
Some banks don't realize that US debit cards with MasterCard and/or Visa symbol will work through the MasterCard/Visa cash advance system.

With out a checking account, I would guess that the cheapest way would be for her to mail you a US Post money order.
But at the end of the day you are better off opening a bank account.

I think Western Union is comparable to other modes of money transfer. Western Union is one of the oldest and largest money transfer networks worldwide. It is one the safest way to receive money since it is not possible to reverse the transaction, especially if the amount is received in cash. More details available at
