    First- Internet Explorer 7-

I don't think, you should right now. Like, if possible keep using IE-6, or better still, download Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla is considered a safer, and better browser, notto mention, more malleable/customizable as per your needs, as compared to Internet Explorer, with its free Extensions.

    http://www.download.com/Mozilla-Firefox/3003-2356_...

is the place where you can read reviews from endusers like us, who rate any available software on basis of its ease of use, security etc. And with 8 million users worldwide, Mozilla isn't really a David to Microsoft's Goliath.

If you do have to shift to IE-7, wait a few months ( 6 at least) till they discover major loopholes and problems and sort them out!

If you are that bothered about phishing, IE7 hasn't really proved its worth yet. It is, like, just about released.

Opera is also nice, but I like Mozilla better. IE-7 is just Microsoft trying to ape Firefox's tabbed browsing etc.

    About registry cleaners:

    Better download Ccleaner from

    http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10592...

    Its free and Okay,

but if you don't mind pirated software, you could always download and install bitcomet, a free torrentclient( 29 million users) from

    http://www.download.com/BitComet/3000-2196_4-10594...

    .

Then go to torrent sites like torrentreactor.net ( list of top 20 torrent sites is at http://slyck.com/bt.php?page=3 ), search for regcleaner or whatever your favourite application is, download the .torrent file to your computer, and open it to download the software's serial-cracked version. and use it for free.

But, THIS IS STEALING, AND IF YOU ARE CAUGHT ( which is rather unlikely) they could take legal action against you ( even more unlikely, cos that would waste more of their money, what with lawyers not being cheap. At least not as cheap as $20 -30 they would get from the software).

    So take your pick!

Internet Explorer has been just released so you can install it. But I prefer Opera and can recommend it to you.

For registry management I can recommend you RegCleaner - good free and easy to use program for getting rid of old and useless registry entries. RegCleaner is here: http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives...

You could try doing a system restore to a time before your father installed the upgrade.
