How much should I sell my used 75 Gallon Aquarium for?

I have a used 75 Gallon Aquarium. It does not have a hood. It does, however, have a wooden stand with cabinets. It also has a few decorations and plants. It has a filter also, that needs one small replacement part. How much should I sell this set for? I need suggestions because I'm not sure how much this type of aquarium runs for. Thanks!

Look around on places like craigslist.org and see what people are selling them for around where you live. Some places have a higher demand then others so the prices will be different.

  • I have bought many, many used tanks, so I am quite experienced in this field.

I personally would be willing to pay $70 - 90 for that setup. Since the tank does not have a hood, that takes off a lot of the setup's value due to the fact that hoods (particularly ones for tanks above 55 gallons) tend to be hard to find in the stores. And when the proper size can be found, they are usually expensive.

Additionally, the filter is missing a necessary part, which, depending on what part it is, can cost anywhere from $10 - 45. This also takes away value from the setup.

I take it the decorations and plants are fake? That's another thing the buyer will have to deal with, because most fishkeepers (at least around here) keep real plants, and will have to throw them away or find someone to give them to.

Also, if the gravel is any color other than natural, that will also take off value (most people prefer natural gravel). Having to throw away large amounts of colorful gravel is a hassle to deal with, and that alone can make people decide not to get a tank.

It doesn't appear there is any lights for the tank either, which again decreases the value of the setup. Lights for tanks that large are expensive, and a compact fluorescent light for that size of tank would probably cost about $150 - 200.

The tank and stand, though presumably in good condition, are indeed used and therefore will have some normal wear and tear. Therefore, for a used 75 gallon tank and stand, a filter that needs a replacement part, and some plants/decorations that will probably not get used, $70 - 90 seems like a fair price.

    Hope that helps.

It depends on how nice the stand is. I've seen oak stands for 75 gallon tanks from $100-$400 and the tank itself would probably sell for $75ish.

  • Since it used (and missing parts) I would say about $120 would be a good start.
