The Hindu God Known as Shiva.

According to Shaivism, the Good Lord Shiva performs five functions: 1. Creator, 2. Preserver, 3. Destroyer, 4. Reprieving us from the sins, and most importantly, 5. Blessing.

Somanath is just another name for Shiva since Shiva is a much holier name that probably shouldn't be used so generally, but he'll understand, right?

Its just like the name Adonai is holier than if you just said God.

Somnath means "The Protector of Moon God".

The Somnath Temple located in the Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval in Saurashtra, on the western coast of Gujarat, India is one of the twelve Jyotirlings (golden lingas) symbols of the God Shiva. It is mentioned in the Rig Veda. Somnath means "The Protector of Moon God". The Somnath Temple is known as 'the Shrine Eternal', as although the temple has been destroyed six times it has been rebuilt every single time.

The meaning of Shiva is All auspicious and it stands for the Lord's aspect that is All Knowledge both subjective and objective. Consequently, He is All fullness within and very easily pleased by devotees. All fullness has to be limitless (i.e. infinite) and the Shiva Linga captures this fact in the finite form. One can see no specific beginning or an end for a circle or a sphere. So the Shiva Linga stands for the Lord's limitlessness. Lord Shiva is known as Hara, Shankar, Shambhu and Neelkantha also. The Lord, when invoked as Shiva, blesses devotees with knowledge of Totality and anything else asked for. Anyone who has devotion to Shiva, even having animalistic instincts, the Lord removes these instincts and uses the person as His vehicle to bless the world and this is indicated by Nandi facing Shiva. The Vedic installation ceremony was performed on June 11 thru 14, 1998 and the deity is named as Lord Somanath Sadashiva. (The famous Somanath temple of Western India

It depends what you are asking. Are you asking whether the English word "god" has a meaning; and if so what is it? Or are you asking whether "God (the Creator" has meaning in who He is and what He does? The first question about the Eng word "god"; well to be honest, I do NOt know what is the origin of the word. I guess I can check online, but that would be me just regurgitating what someone else has written. I tend to think of the Eng word "god" to refer to "a or the Creator". When used of the biblical God, then I would refer to "God" as meaning "the uncreated Creator who is full of power and might; a king who has the right and ability to judge, but is not confined to a physical form" As for whether the God of the Bible has meaning... I would say that the question is the wrong way round: the God of the Bible is the means by which ALL else has meaning. No thing can have meaning unless the God of the Bible is truly who He says He is. I understand then that this implies that one has to accept that the God of the Bible - 1 - Exists 2 - Can be experienced by mankind 3 - The Bible is an accurate account of God communicating with mankind (in its original language) I guess what could help answer the second question is "Why should anything have meaning?" Or better still "Why are humans looking for meaning in things?" across ALL cultures throughout all of recorded history... Hope this helps
