Way back in 1978, the first issue of a magazine called "Fantastic Films" ran articles on The Day The Earth Stood Still. One examined the language used in the film and suggested it was based loosely on root words from various dialects. Barada would have it's origins in words like "barbarism", while Necto, (or Nikto?)would imply death...like in necropolis.

In any case, the literal definition suggested by the article is "Stop barbarism (I have) death, bind. The free translation is "I die, repair me, do not retaliate."

Have to agree with others that there is no one definiton, however...this is just another possibility.

They don't mean anything in English, it has to do with a movies such as "Army of Darkness" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still" and there is much speculation as to what it actually means. The AoE movie script lists it as "Clatto Verata Nicto". In the other movie, a space character named Klaatu has to say the phrase, "Klaatu, Barada, Nikto" in order to control the giant robot, Gort."

So yeah, I have no clue...that is all from a little Google researching.

The meaning is never stated exactly but it was a command from the alien Klaatu to the robot Gort not to destroy the earth for killing him.

That was the signal for Gort, the giant robot, to leave his post. He was standing "guard" of the saucer while Kaatu (aka Carpenter) was trying to reason with the worlds leaders to STOP the nuclear arms race. It also is how you stop Gort from opening his visor and using his "death laser".....GREAT FLICK!
