A question for all you pro-choice people...?

I was thinking today, about what abortion really is...

I mean it is ending a life that isn't really the mothers life. She shares it with a child that contains half of her DNA, but it is still not her. So I went and thought even deeper, my little brother and I share some DNA, and well I don't really like him, so I think I am going to abort him. Is that okay?

I mean even though he is 17 years old, he can still be killed off right? I mean its better than letting him live through the hard things in life right? I mean sure he can have a life, but it could be bad, and if it is bad isnt it better to just off him now before it gets worse? Yes ? No? And if thats the case why dont we all just slit our wrists before life gets too bad?

Abortion for any reason is bad. The mother may not be at fault in some cases of pregnency(rape, ect.) but should she kill the child because she doesnt want it, or because it will be uncomfortable for her.

abortion is bad at any time weather it is from rape or incest or whatever. It is never the babies fault. We have become a society where it is very scary if you happen to be a person who is inconvenient to another person--Terri Schaivo she is a prime example of someone who was inconvenient --- abortion ---- Dr. Kevorkian --- all very disturbing.

In a perfect world, everything would be possible. Every conception could lead to a birth, which would result in a happy, healthy, desired child.

We do not live in a perfect world.

We live in reality. Reality is that people can not be controlled, life is not sacred to everyone, and nature could care less about our human ethics. Nothing will ever changes these facts.

Let me say that again... NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE THESE FACTS.

Let me state that I am not a "right-to-lifer", but I do revere life. I wish it were possible that every life that got started could realize its potential, but that's not how it is, with humans or any other life form on this planet. Nothing could be more incumbent than the fact that humans have a right to do what they want with their bodies, EVEN if they are carrying a "proto-human" within them.

You need to accept that reality will never come close to mirroring our "ideals." At this time in society, abortion is a facet of existance, so it will stay no matter how many laws are passed, or how many people complain.

    Deal with it.

Some births can kill the mother and in this "me" generation world that's what come first in a person's mind. Also I've heard giving birth hurts alot. Some people can't afford to have a child. If the child is put up for adoption the mother is always wondering "what happened my one child" always unfulfilled wondering. Where if it was aborted she has a better life or career. Your 17 year old brother has already exited the womb and grown. What he does with his life is his choice now. It's not to spare someone life with all its ups and downs. If it's inside of you it's part of you. It's a complex subject with different scenarios that's why it's called pro-"choice" which means not all accidental pregnancies are being destroyed but they still have the choice to traumatize them self in killing a person inside of them, it's their point of view. Which may ironically in time make her want to "abort herself". What alot of women feel is that they're being bossed around by men or the pope etc.

    Hope my answer helped.

    Until next time yours truly,

I agree, although some may think your reasoning is completely different then abortion. Your point is well made though, it doesn't matter what stage the fetus might be in, abortion prevents a life from coming to earth. In most states it's illegal to kill an unborn child. So why should abortion be any different? I respect the right of a mother's choice I really do, but abortion takes any and all choices away from a life that wasn't given a chance to live. Abortion because of rape incest, or potential death to the mother is understandable. But just because you couldn't use protection? No sorry you made your choice already now you should live with the consequences. If don't want or can't take care of a child, adoption is wonderful.

That's okay that you don't think that it's right. You have your reasons for saying that it's wrong and I have my own reasons for feeling that it is a choice. Why do you feel that just because you have a veiw on something that everyone else should have to abide by your rules? How does it honestly affect you if a woman that you do not know has an abortion. Let your god (if you believe in one) judge them. You have control over your own life so keep it there. I personally would not get an abortion, but if another woman wants to it does not have any direct effect on my life at all. Let it go buddy.

I am definitely pro-choice and I'll tell you why. Too many times an unwanted baby is born and meets with a terrible fate.

Have you heard the one about the little boy, maybe three years old who was scalded to death by the mother's boyfriend? Or, a three year old girl who was raped by a family member? Or, the four year old boy who was brought into the hospital with cigarette burns all over his body and numerous broken bones? Luckily, he died. Let's not forget the four year old boy who fell out of a fourth floor window because he and his 7 year old brother were left alone. The list goes on.

Certainly, not all lives wind up this bad but, the problem with all the pro-lifers is they carry their cause up to delivery of the baby. They never follow the baby after that. Kids who wind up with broken bones, scars (both physical and mental), and a severely broken spirit can wind up as societal problems who then commit crimes to others. These are malcontents who wind up in jail for life.

I defend any woman's right to choose. That's all.

Good question. Some of the main pro-choice arguments are these: the baby will be a financial or other kind of hardship on the mother (or is simply unwanted), the child has a life-threatening disease and will likely die soon anyways or be a huge burden and probably miserable in life, the child was due to rape or incest, (or simply that the choice is one to be made by the woman, not the government)...

Which of these reasons would justify the right to choose whether the baby lives or dies minutes after it is delivered (for argument's sake, you could even say before the umbilical cord is cut, and it has still not been "surgically removed from the mother")?

Is the real issue about choice and the woman's body, or any of these issues above, or is it about when life actually begins such that ending it is murder?

you have a lot to learn about life

carrying a child that is the result of rape is not easy .. what if the rapist finds out that he has a child ?

that endangers the mother and the child

what if the mother has to run away with other children and has no money , home or clothes . but does so for fear of her life ?

what if the mother cried every day about the decision she made because she loves children so much , but knew in her heart it was right at that time ?

this was my mothers story xx

Procreation is an ongoing process which can be interrupted at any point, right from not having sex in the first place, through contraception, and drugs which prevent implantation, to abortion anywhere up to the moment of birth.

Somewhere along that process, most people would have a point where they consider it's OK to interfere to prevent the birth of a baby up to that point, but not afterwards - e.g. abstinence is OK, but contraception isn't.... or contraception is OK, but abortion isn't... or abortion is OK but only up to week 20... or whatever. It's simply a matter of conscience where you personally decide to draw the line, and on what basis.

For myself, I cannot accept that an undifferentiated bunch of cells has more rights than the fully grown adults who are responsible for its existence. I also cannot accept that it's right to kill a foetus when it's fully developed and due to be born. Logically then, there has to be a point somewhere in between that I decide, on the basis of conscience, is the point at which abortion becomes unacceptable. I don't know enough about it to have a definite view where that point lies, but it must lie somewhere in the 9 months of pregnancy. It's in the nature of life that there are no easy answers to this kind of question, as it's a matter of subjective opinion rather than objective fact - and my opinion is that abortion cannot be wrong, per se.

What if the child is so ill that it will die when it's born? Or what if the child is so ill that it will die, and will kill the mother? What then? Just let them both die and suffer? What if a young girl's dad rapes her and she is pregnant with a mentally and physically deformed child that won't make it anyway? What then?

Abortion is wrong in most cases, but not all. Think a little before you type.

I agree with you, but we must always take into consideration that the mother is sometimes a victim. In those "RARE" cases, we must provide a way out for the victim. However, abortion on demand is murder. Actually, so is abortion after a rape-but this is an unusual situation. We have to be responsible citizens. We must provide abortion in cases where we must, and we must provide extreme punishment for everyone involved in all other situations.
