A lot of the problems associated with pet dander are brought about by the pets diet. The usual dry foods like Purina and the like, while providing the necessary things to keep your pet from starvation do little to promote real health. The lack of ingredients essential for the proper balance of oils in the hair and skin are at the root of the problem, though one can't lay the blame on the manufacturers as to make such would put their cost in line with those of the high end foods such as Iams and Eucanuba. My advice would be to switch to one of these more complete brands as well as supplementing with the occasional treat of canned food. Sure, it ends up being a more expensive option, but your cat's health and well being will more than make up for such. Good luck.

I agree with "slowhandkiller" buy better cat food like "Iams, Science diet or Eucanuba.

I just had my cat "Blackie" put to sleep yesterday 10-28-06 after 22 years.

Most of his life I fed him Iam's, it gave him a better coat, better (in a cat way) personality.

1 to 2 x's per year I brought him to a groomer for a bath, when ever I felt his dandruf was getting too bad.

Blackie had the most dandruf when he was over weight and couldn't properly clean himself.

A better diet is one solution. Cat chow, kit n kabootle, friskies are "fast food" for animals. Try something better like Nutro, Science Diet, or Royal Canin.

Derm Caps, can get at vet. Added to food.

DO NOT use human shampoo on an animal!

Diabetes or obesity is another thing to think about.

Try brushing your cat every day on top of a better diet.

    Good luck!

I've been told to put a little bit of flax seed oil in your cat's wet food, to put more moisture in their skin. Also if this doesnt work, feed them more wet food than dry food. Finally if you use a lot of flea shampoos or shampoos with harsh chemicals, you might want to not use them for a little while, cat dry skin can result from chemicals drying out the skin or even a flea allergy. So if your cat has fleas it could be this.

Your cat would have fleas. you seem such as you preserve your puppy lots, so i might think of you will possibly have observed them if he did have fleas, nevertheless they are in a position to be extra sturdy to be sure on dark colored cats. in case you think of that's fleas, bypass forward and supply him a shower and use prevalent dish cleansing soap.. i chanced on that it fairly works extra effective than many of the fleas shampoos I actual have tried. Now, this is going to sound like the opposite thank you to bathe fleas off of your cat, even nevertheless it's going to help you to be conscious them if he's infested. initiate on the returned of his physique and artwork slowly in direction of his head. The fleas will pass there and since the fur is thinner, you will have the flexibility to be sure them if he has them. in case you do no longer, examine the bathtub water and look by way of his fur. They get sluggish and stupid and infrequently they do no longer pass in any respect when you wash with dish cleansing soap. If he's have been given fleas, frontline will preserve them. in case you detect that he would not have fleas, that's fairly useful to comb him down, do away with the surplus fur and spot if his epidermis is dry. if so, examine inclusive of your vet to be sure what's maximum suitable to alleviate it. no depend if that's neither of those, that's fairly useful to look for suggestion out of your vet immediately, in case that's something extra intense. sturdy success to you and your furry buddy!

You could ask a vet or groomer for suggestions. Oatmeal shampoo is good for bad skin, but over-bathing can dry skin out so becareful.
