Diesel Dodge Ram engines?
What diesel engine do the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 use? I always thought they had Cummins 24 valve V10 engine but after reading the wikipedia articles on Dodge Rams and Cummins engines I found that the diesel engines are I6. Is this true?

Inline 6 cylinder 24 valve turbo diesel. Its a beautiful thing.

Wikipedia is correct, Dodge has used a Cummins I6 since the intro of diesel to the truck line. They did change from a 12 valve to a 24 valve design in '98. The V10 was a gas engine...no longer in production.

I dont even know if there is a production vehechile with a v10 diesel? But yes wikipedia is right the cummins is an inline 6. Less parts, and much more efficent than a v8. Dodge also made a v10 GAS motor for there fullsize trucks, but that is no longer continued. Ive heard rumors that cummins is going to make a v8 motor, but i doubt that.

early Dodge/Cummins combos in the late 80's and early 90s were actaully a 12 valve 6 cylinder. then came the updated 24 valve 6 cylinder. dodge made a v-10 gas engine that went in the 2500-3500 series trucks. Dodge NEVER put a 10 cylinder in a Dakota....to clear up that confusion.

Dodge uses the 5.9 L Cummings Turbo Diesel inline 6 engine in the current Heavy duty trucks (2500 and 3500). 325 HP @ 2,900 RPMs, and 610 ftlb of torgue @ 1,600 RPMs.
There is also a new 6.7 L Cummings Turbo Diesel that has not been released yet but will likely be available late 07 or 08 model year.

Oh jeez, the cummins diesels are 5.9 liter 6 cyls, turbocharged, and earlier ones were 12 valve, now 24. The V-10's were gas and 488 cubes and were available in full size ram trucks.

They use a Cummins in line 6 cylinder motor.
The Dakota pickup and the Full size did have a 10 cylinder gasoline motor designed by Dodge, that may be where your confusion lies.
