A Mustard Survey Question/Riddle?

Question

A Consumer Survey company was hired by a Mustard Company to find out how many people liked hot mustard and how many like mild. The report the Survey Company revealed is here:

Number of people surveyed: 300
Number of hot mustard users: 234
Number of mild mustard users: 213
Number who use both hot and mild: 144
Number who never used mustard: 0

After the Survey Company completed its report, they were fired and had their check cancelled. Why?

First of all... In order to have a group of people that use both, one must assume that the ones that use HOT never use MILD and vice versa.  Hot + Mild = 447.  Then the people that use BOTH are a totally different group so 447 + 144 = 591.  The findings of the survey were inconclusive really.

H = hot mustard users = 234
M = mild mustard users = 213
B = users of both mustards = 144
H + M - B = 300
234 + 213 - 144 = 300
303  = 300

The numbers do not add up to 300. The results are off by 3. It also seems that out of 300 people at least 1 would not use mustard.

They made up the numbers

If there were 234 people that used hot mustard then that means there were 66 people that didnt.
if there were 213 that used mild then there were 87 that didnt.
the # that used both 144 leaving 156 that didnt use both.
87 and 66 is 153.

the numbers didn't match up. 234 + 213= 447 not 300 and if you include the 144 that would make 591, again that's not 300
