Changing Keys on guitar?

I have started playing guitar in my church and alot of the music is in flat keys. Could you tell me where to capo and what key to play in for various flat keys? Thank you

Hi dogpreacher, your question doesn't mention which keys you're comfortable in, but I'll assume you can manage D, G, or A without any trouble. Here's the ones I typically use:

    A - play open

    Bb - Capo 1, play A, or better, Capo 3, play G

    B - Capo 2, play A

C - play open (although F is tricky if you don't play bar chords)

    C#/Db - Capo 1, play C, or Capo 4, play A

    D - play open

    Eb - Capo 1, play D

    E - Capo 2, play D

    F - Capo 3, play D

    F#/Gb - Capo 4, play D

    G - play open

    Ab - Capo 1, play G

Obviously, some of the above keys (E in particular) aren't bad if you can handle an occasional bar chord (since the B chord is in the key of E, you'll hit those pretty often). But if you can get to D, all three major chords in the key of D (D, G and A) are easy, non-bar chords, so that's what I shoot for if I have the choice. Same with G (where the three majors are G, C and D).

Good luck! I play in church as well -- let me know if you'd like to hear some of my stuff!
