Boot to the Vista CD, go through the install process, installing it on the D partition, but tell it to leave the current filesystem intact.

It will automatically setup the dual boot for you, when your computer boots you will be prompted as to which OS you want to use.

Or you could just switch to Linux and get all the features of Vista for free and get a more reliable system, better updating, better package management (Imagine a windows machine that would upgrade ALL software on your system at once not just MS software). Check out OpenSuse, Ubuntu, Fedora

you'll want a minimum of four partitions previously you're able to do something. One for each OS and one for the "hidden" partition. There are numerous application products which will enable you to try this. examine for the partition standards for Ubuntu, which will require extra effective than one partition. If this have been a private laptop, i might advise making the currentpersistent a secondary and a brand newpersistent the favourite with the mandatory type of partitions on it. you will possibly evaluate making a documents partition which would be accessible to all 3 working systems so each and each OS is in basic terms an working device.

I would not think so if you instlall Vista on D and leave XP on C. What will happen is Windows will ask you which one you want to boot too when you startup your computer.

You can also try a bootloader I like Grub the best.
