1978 ford f-150 fuel pump installation?

I need to replace a fuel pump on a 1978 ford f-150, when I changed the fuel pump on a chevy there was a push rod that needed to be lifted to push the fuel pump in, on the chavy pump there was a little dished area on the end for the push rod to go in. on the ford pump there is no dish it is longer than the chevy too. I was wondering if the ford pump used a cam instead of a push rod? and finnaly is there any trick to changing the ford fuel pump?

Update:

I dont want to get a new truck! I have kept this one running for 420,000 miles (120,00 on this engine) THANKS for all the quick responses!!

no tricks, what you see is what you get!! the fuel pump lever is longer because it is driven by the camshaft. you are correct.

old engines are the easiest to work on. just take your time and you'll be fine.

    Very simple installation.

The reason for no push rod is that the arm on the pump (lever) is driven from an eccentric at the front of the camshaft.

Disconnect the lines BEFORE removing the bolts for the pump.

Remove the old pump, position a new gasket (or silicone) on the pump, and insert the lever BELOW the eccentric, and start each bolt and run them in equally, a couple of turns each at a time. Secure the bolts AFTER you have STARTED the steel line.

After securing the bolts, THEN secure the line and install the flex line. If the line is at all old, or showing cracks, NOW is the time to replace it.

    Good Luck
