If the economy is so strong in USA why is it so difficult for legal Americans to find good paying jobs 40k&up?
To keep pace with the retail price index & be an active consumer your not going to have much or save anything even at $40,000 per year! I.ve been in the system on paper for over 37 years but economically disadvantaged! Never on welfare! A volunteer wartime veteran! Some college. I hold certification to command above the $40k etc. Who do i need to know or be related too?
Jim; i most certainly have applied many times in my work history for the jobs you suggest infact yesterday was a closing date which i filed on one. We are supposed to get interviews also, i have never recieved an interview nor contested the nightmare hurry up and wait process either! Like the private sector it works best with an insider connection.

Well, the economy isn't strong. The economics numbers have been spun-they're not good at all. The stock market-many companies are getting good profit numbers only by cost-cutting jobs and services. And tax cuts. Meanwhile, our debt is out of control. We have never had a war while giving tax cuts-especially to the upper echelons of society, who may have mansions and three brand-new leased vehicles but are deeply in debt themselves. And I have a university degree with several financial licenses and 20 years experience and have never seen things so bad. By the way, our US Treasuries are now 51% owned by foreign entities. Maybe that's why the president referred to US Treasuries backed by the full faith of the US Government as paper IOUs in a drawer.

I have a rule of thumb as a business owner. For every dollar I pay in salary an employee must be able to generate four dollars of income. So if you want $40K, you have to be able to either generate $160K in sales or support services (direct funding) or show me how your work ethos and habits will save me that same amount in business efficiencies. If you can do that, I have no problem paying the $40K. If you can't then I loose money on you as an employee. This affects the bonuses of all employees plus denigrates morale. Bottom line. If you want a $40K job in your industry, prove up. Most jobs start between $28K and $35k, or depending upon where you live, like a major metro area, starting can be higher because of the cost of living.
FYI if you are a veteran, why aren't you applying for GS-7 and up jobs with the US government at www.usajobs.gov? You have preference.

Sad but true but a 4 year college is now not enough. Heck in science, a ph.d is not enough (most people go on to another 4-6 years of post-doc before getting a real job)! Since more people are going to college, the competition for more well-educated people is fierce. Thats why I'm in grad school trying to get a ph.d. When I graduate from undergrad the pay sucked so I wanted to continue with school to raise my 'worth' to companies. The point is, no free lunch. Work hard and get paid more. Don't expect to get paid more just because you've been with a certain company for a long time.

The best answer is the correct one. I am 14 and have fought kids bigger than me and I used the in and out method because I knew from my cousins that are UFC trained that taught me stuff also taught me how to use this method this guy knows what he's talking about and never ever doubt it because if you ask any professional fighter they will tell you the exact same thing for fighting a bigger opponent

Did you go to college? If so, you should not have a problem in this great country getting a higher paying job. This is a great country we live in. My husband and I struggle with four kids and are still below 40K. I do know how hard it is. There are sound reasons we are all struggling in this economy and it started years and years ago before all of us were born with something called "the new deal" it was a good idea to help people that are struggling but it brought on many of these economic problems we live in today.

Well that depends.....
Where you live is a huge factor, as well as what you do and how well you do it.....
who you know is definitely a deciding factor on getting your foot in the door, when it comes to larger entities.....

Graeat point and great question...A tax cut means nothing if you are paying 25% more for the everyday necessities...It ends up be a net loss!

You don't just get handed such opportunities. You must be educated. You must have experience. You must be able to contribute positively to the work force. Our economy is strong because these factors exist, not because people are paid accordingly... socialism does not work.

how high is your education? if you dropped out of high school, and expect to make $40,000 a year, thats wishful thinking.
