Project Puffin was started back in 1973 to re-introduce this funny looking little seabird back to Eastern Egg Rock Island in Midcoast Maine. Since that time the Puffin colonies have flourished along the Maine coast.

Lots of school children make the pilgrimage by boat every year to see the Puffins. I've been a few years as a chaperone. The Puffins are small, with a black and white coat, orange webbed feet, and a colorful orange, red, black beak. It was fun to see them all.

Puffins are very common in some parts of Iceland and very popular with tourists. Personally I never liked that bird for some reason.
