why are boys stupid for the popular girls?

Coz they're not men yet! They still have some growing up to do.

Hormones. Popular girls are the hot girls, and boys have 7 million years of genetic programming to want to screw hot girls.

Some guy eventually realize those "hot" girls are usually poison. They start hanging out with the down-to-Earth real girls. They're hotter anyway - but that's (hopefully) a few years down the road for you.

Ok, real answer - "popular" only means something to high schoolers and political pundits. Once you hit college, it will be so completely meaningless you'll laugh at it all, unless you let it traumatize you now. Don't. Go find a cool geek and make out.

I wonder the same thing, personally, I'm pretty, but hang out with unpopular/ugly people. I've heard a theory about how if you dump a girl, you could date her hot friend if she's popular. But also popular girls do tend to talk to guys more often and put out a bit more and so on.
